"Jesus rose from supper and took off his outer garments. He took a towel and tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and dry them with the towel around his waist." John 13:4-5

Holy Thursday Comes to Life

On a cool spring evening at Angel House, we held our annual foot washing ceremony. We took turns washing each other's feet and blessing one another as a sign of love and service.

Our Community Coordinator, Luca, led the evening of prayer, reflection, and song. Christianne read the story of Christ washing his disciples feet and we had a discussion about what it means to love and serve each other. We passed around a small statue of Jesus washing Peter's feet while David and Kate led us in singing Ubi Caritas.

Taking our cue from Jesus, we knelt down before one another and washed the feet or hands of the person next to us. After drying the feet, the person who had their feet washed blessed the person who washed.

The evening concluded with a reflective solidarity dinner of soup and bread. The money that we saved on this simple meal was sent to help support our sister community, El Arca, in Argentina.
