Chris is a big fan of ABC 7/ABC 7 News. So much so that he knows the news hosts by first name and last name, and talks about them at Friendship House even when the news are not turned on.
As I know someone who works backstage at ABC, Joel, I asked him if he could give Chris a tour of the studios. Joel immediately said yes and, upon delivering this news to Chris, you can imagine Chris' excitement.
So it happened that on February 21st, Chris, Friendship House coordinator Evangeline and I enter the "ABC doors." Immediately starting at the entrance area, Chris started taking pictures of the ABC7 logo, shown on the carpet and on the walls. Joel led us on a tour of the newsroom, of the morning show studio, and to the area in which handiwork happens. Chris observed attentively.
As we continued the tour, we got to meet various news anchors. Journalist Alan Krashesky reporting from the news room, some others coming out of the make-up room. As Chris met Alan, Cheryl Burton, Mark Giangreco (who got complimented by Chris on his tie), and Kathy Brock Chris took pictures with them and even guessed their heights. Chris was happy, looked forward to meet ABC's "stars," and was very present.
As we entered the ABC 7 News tv studio, Chris face lightened up, news anchor Cheryl Burton greeted him all the way from behind the news desk: "Hey Chris!" Alan Krashesky greeted him with a wave. They noticed and affirmed Chris' presence, something that resonates with L'Arche as well.
We looked at the news from within the studio - attentively and observantly. Chris took a photo with the news hosts right at the news desk. We then went out to celebrate with a pizza dinner.
Now, that is good news.
