Responding to the Need

In the state of Illinois, there are thousands of vulnerable adults in need of a healthy, loving, community. We’re responding to this need by growing our own community and purchasing a new home in order to welcome 2 new core members!

We have a goal to raise $32,000 over the next 6 months.

This amount will cover gap between the actual cost of care and the amount reimbursed to us by the state for 2 core members for a year! You can be a part of the incredible impact on the lives of vulnerable adults and their families!

Here are 3 ways you can help us meet this goal:

  1. Make a one time donation to L'Arche

  2. Set up a monthly donation to help welcome 2 new core members

  3. Pledge to Give and Share on GivingTuesday!

An anonymous foundation has pledged to match any new online donation for a year (up to $10,000!) If someone pledges $25 a month ($300 annual), the foundation will match it with a $300 contribution!

  • $10 a month ($120) provides access to advocacy conferences for a community member
  • $20 a month ($240) covers meals out for a year for a core member
  • $30 a month ($360) allows a community member to attend a retreat sponsored by L'Arche USA
  • $50 a month ($600) provides groceries and supplies for two community members for a month
  • $100 a month ($1,200) funds the gap between state funding and the actual medical expenses for ALL core members for a YEAR!

The Details

In the State of Illinois, there are currently 7,180 individuals on a waiting list to receive group home services such as those that L’Arche Chicago provides. Of these 7,180 people, 4,896 individuals are listed as being in immediate and urgent need of a placement into a group home called a CILA (Community Integrated Living Arrangement).  To meet the demand for services, the State of Illinois relies heavily on organizations such as L’Arche to provide care for the disabilities community. However, the financial support that is offered is limited and precarious. This government support is vital yet not enough to cover the actual costs.

The State’s existing level of funding for persons with disabilities is based on 15 year old data that does not provide support based on actual need. For example, the State of Illinois provides 73% ($75,496) of the actual cost ($102,800) of room and board for our core members. “Room and Board” consists of the total for mortgage, groceries, and household supplies. This leaves L’Arche Chicago a responsibility to fund raise the additional 27% ($27,304).

Thank you for your continued support and prayers as we continue our journey of growth in the Chicagoland area and live out our mission to make known the gifts of people with disabilities.
