As we come to the close of the year, it is good to take time to reflect on all the many ways we have been blessed this year. You welcomed L’Arche into your heart through your donations, prayers, and time. Your generositytransforms the lives of people with and without disabilities and we couldn’t make the difference we do without you–so we extend a very special thank you to you this year! And as you consider your year-end giving, I’d like to ask you to remember L’Arche again this year so that we can continue to transform lives together with you.
New Core Members
Welcoming new core members (persons with intellectual disabilities) into L’Arche is a deep joy for our community. Because L’Arche will be their home for life if they choose, we savor these moments as they only come once every few years as we have space. This fall we welcomed Davey into Angel House and were reminded again of how L’Arche profoundly transforms lives by creating homes of joy.
Cooking and Taking the Bus
“I want to cook more often and take public transportation,” Davey told us (always quick to get to the point!) as we sat together with his family around the dinner table at Angel House, deciding together whether L’Arche would be a good fit for him to live. Davey moved in the next month and wasted no time pursuing his goals. He and Kelly, his day time L’Arche assistant, began planning steps to help him reach his goals. Before even a month had passed, Davey was cooking dinner for him and his housemates once a week. He had also taken his inaugural public transportation trip by himself to downtown Oak Park. Small things that mean a world to Davey. And small things that happen every day in L’Arche.Being in a new place can be scary and equally exciting, but, with curiosity and attentiveness, Davey is quickly turning this new place into his home.
Create Homes of Joy With Us
Your support allows us to create spaces where people like Davey can flourish, and in doing so, bless each of us. In our homes, the gifts of being together, love, and family are exchanged and nourished each day. These small gestures have a cumulative effect that can change the world by demonstrating that unity can exist alongside difference.
Will you please consider making a tax-deductible year-end donation to continue L’Arche Chicago’s life-changing impact? Your generosity supports the core members and assistants to change the world with love.
With deep gratitude,
